Beyond Cloud

What Beyond Cloud does today

A control plane for Talos Kubernetes on Hetzner Cloud. This page lists what you can use now and what isn't built yet, so you can decide whether it fits before you sign up.

Recreated from the Beyond Cloud app with example data.

Available now

Everything here works in early access.

Talos cluster provisioning on Hetzner Cloud

Choose 1 or more control plane nodes, any number of workers, a location and server types. Runs as a 12-step workflow.

  • Available:

    Workflow runs with history

Status, timing and logs for every step. Retries with exponential backoff. Background recovery for runs that stall.

  • Available:

    Live status

Provisioning and workflow progress stream to the dashboard over WebSocket.

  • Available:

    Kubeconfig download

Get the admin kubeconfig for a finished cluster from the cluster page or the API.

  • Available:

    Cluster import

Register a cluster you already run, optionally read-only, with its GitOps repository and Argo CD links.

  • Available:

    Cluster deletion workflow

Validates the request, removes the Hetzner resources and then cleans up the records.

  • Available:

    Encrypted secrets

Cloud provider tokens and other credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and versioned when they change.

The provisioning workflow

The exact steps a new cluster goes through. Each one is recorded with status, duration and logs.

  1. 01

    Validate configuration

Checks the request and that the Hetzner token can reach your project.

  2. 02

    Find Talos image

Locates the Talos snapshot to boot servers from.

  3. 03

    Create load balancer

Creates the load balancer that fronts the Kubernetes API.

  4. 04

    Generate Talos configuration

Generates machine configs and cluster certificates.

  5. 05

    Create control plane nodes

    Creates the control plane servers.

  6. 06

    Create worker nodes

    Creates the worker servers.

  7. 07

    Wait for node readiness

Waits until every server reports running.

  8. 08

    Configure load balancer

Points the load balancer at the control plane.

  9. 09

    Bootstrap Talos

Bootstraps etcd and the control plane.

  10. 10

    Generate kubeconfig

Issues the admin kubeconfig for the cluster.

    Verify cluster health

    Checks nodes and core components.

  12. 12
